Q: Tell us a little bit about your role.

My role is to develop and nurture the relationships I’ve built with my clients. I advise, consult, and help provide the best solution based on what their lending and deposit needs are. I love what I do and often times it doesn’t feel like work; it feels like I am getting the opportunity to help build dreams and partner with my clients along the way. We are blessed to be in an area that is constantly growing, changing, and welcoming new people, and we have the opportunity to serve the members of the community by providing financial solutions based on their goals.

Q: What got you into the banking industry?

Interestingly enough, I was in my final year of college at Lee University and was assigned a project where I had to analyze a business to understand their business structure, strategies, management, and financials. It just so happened that one of the companies was a regional bank, and I reached out to connect with one of the senior leaders of that bank. When discussing my project with him, he asked if I had plans after college. At the time, I did not know what I was going to do so it was perfect timing when he offered me an opportunity to come and be the first “Manager in training.” When I started, it was like drinking water from a fire hose but ended up being the best learning experience and on-the-job training I could have asked for to start what would be the beginning of my career in banking.

Q: What do you enjoy most about working at Lineage Bank?

Lineage Bank presented an opportunity to really make a difference in the community. Being an employee at Lineage Bank allows every one of us to have our voice heard and to make change.  The commitment to family is also very strong and backed up by our leadership team and their actions.

Q: How is Lineage Bank different from the other banks you’ve worked at?

There really is no comparison. I learned the ropes at “big banks” and grew up on the consumer/retail side of banking and feel that was instrumental in providing a firm foundation for my career. I then got the opportunity to move into the business/commercial side of banking and never looked back. At Lineage, I get to use my background in helping grow the bank and the business and the rewards that have come with that go beyond just being an employee. I feel the sense of pride and ownership from being a team member since day one, and I look forward to being a part of the continued success and growth of Lineage for years to come.

Q: What is the most rewarding part of working at a community bank?

Seeing the difference that we’re able to make in our community and spending time with my clients. The highest compliment I receive is when clients want to refer business to us. There is nothing more rewarding than knowing I’ve impacted someone in our community enough that they want others to have the same experience.

Q: Why do people choose to bank with Lineage?

I think the biggest reason is that they know we are going to be able to provide them with the service they expect and to have us follow through when we say we are going to do something.  So, in one word, trust.

Q: What is your best advice for someone looking to get into commercial lending?

Be patient, getting into a role like this too early or without having built a lot of relationships could make it very challenging. Always be willing to listen, network, and be open to learning new ways of doing things while adapting to change. This has been the most rewarding role I have had in my 20+ years of banking.

Q: What are some of your hobbies? What do you do in your free time?

I always love a round of golf, even if I am bad at it, but my first love will always be baseball. I watch as much baseball as my wife will allow!  As far as free time – what is that? Ha…I spend most of my time chasing around my two-and-a-half-year-old daughter, which is a blast. My wife and I are also expecting baby girl number two very soon, which we’re very much looking forward to.
